Hannibal
At a glance
Hannibal is an open-air spectacle on the Rettenbach glacier in Sölden in which Hannibal's crossing of the Alps is staged on the ice. Snow groomers take the part of the elephants, joined by dancers, skiers, mountain guides, helicopters, pyrotechnics and a light show. The production comes from the artist network Lawine Torrèn. It premiered in April 2001. There had been sixteen performances by 2026, so it does not run every year. The last performance was on 10 April 2026 at half past seven in the evening, with the audience area at 2,668 metres.
It is not an annual fixture, and that is the most important sentence on this page. Sixteen performances in twenty-five years means that anyone who wants to see Hannibal plans the trip around an announced date, not the other way round. At the time of writing, September 2026, no new date has been published.
When it is staged, it is in the evening, in the dark, outdoors on the glacier, at temperatures that are wintry at 2,668 metres in April. Transfer from Sölden to the Rettenbach glacier is included in every ticket category, by lift, bus and shuttle.
We keep this page because the question comes up regularly. As soon as a date is announced it will be here, and then the same applies as for the World Cup week: book early.
